Dive into music at the 2018 80/35 Music Festival through a colorful sculpture installation at the west gate entrance to the Hy-Vee Main Stage! Created by local artists Brittan Ashworth, Brittany Crow, and Jessica Villegas, the Labyrinthine is a visual representation of music and explores music’s ability to universally represent and communicate important aspects of culture.
Meet up with Project Art DM at Stewart Square Park to create art and enjoy a free concert series from Station 1 Records! Draw “what music means to you” or let your creativity take over. Your professionally matted artwork will be on display throughout the evening.
Summer in the City Free Concert Series aims to extend arts and culture activities from downtown Des Moines to underserved communities and to underutilized public facilities, all while spurring economic activity in the surrounding neighborhoods. The concerts are inclusive, family-friendly events showcasing work from a culturally diverse array of nationally renowned artists of varying genres. Talent for this concert includes Bad Bad Hats, SIRES, Honeycreeper, and Lily DeTaeye.
The goal of this collaboration of cinema and sound is to provide insight into the beautiful array of people who call Des Moines home, to encourage a deeper understanding of discrimination, and to facilitate constructive dialogue surrounding issues in our community. Musicians Tobi Parks, Dartanyan Brown, and Hadiza will perform live scores to films curated by PADM. Admission includes heavy appetizers and drinks are available for purchase. Support for this program is generously provided by Mercedes-Benz of Des Moines.
